Compassion Meditation

Want to train your brain to feel more compassion? You can!  Here's how. Practice Compassionate Meditation for 2 weeks for 30 minutes each day. That's it!

A scientific study done by Helen Weng and associates at the University of Wisconsin released a documented study of participants who did this very training.  The results were published in May 2013.  It has since been offered to the public at no cost.

Here are the easy instructions:

  1. Download the audio file from this website: http://bit.ly/1AnuomU.  You may also print the script used in the meditation if you wish.
  2. Then listen to the downloaded mediation every day for 2 weeks! It lasts for 30 minutes so be sure you allow yourself this time for freedom from stressors and other interruptions or demands in your life.
  3. Begin this practice on Feb. 1-14 at a time of day of your choosing.
  4. At the end of 2 weeks, you may actually feel like a new person!

The meditation addresses feeling compassion for a loved one, for yourself, for a neutral person (someone you neither like nor dislike) and for an enemy! Seriously!

Most importantly, MRI images of the brain before and after the meditation training showed a correlation between changes in the brain in response to images of suffering.  It is believed that the participants learned to change their emotional response to becoming more compassionate!

Convinced?  Why not try it?  February is Month of Compassion, after all.
