Compassion Cultivation Training with Amy Anthony (class full)

Compassion Cultivation Training

Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT) is an 8 week class that combines meditation practices and experiential exercises to foster a sense of connection and harmony with oneself and others. The class was developed by Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D. and others through the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University. Before beginning his academic career, Thupten Jinpa lived as a Tibetan Buddhist monk and then served for many years as the personal translator for his Holiness the Dalai Lama. He is the author of A Fearless Heart, which describes how we can transform our lives by cultivating mindfulness, compassion, and loving kindness. CCT offers a set of meditation and spiritual practices that have been used for centuries to develop compassion, loving-kindness, joy, and gratitude.
Compassion Cultivation Training is offered over the course of 8 consecutive weeks, and each class is 2 hours long. The topics are:
1) Settling the Mind
2) Compassion for a Loved One
3) Compassion for Oneself
4) Loving Kindness for Oneself
5) Developing and Appreciating Our Common Humanity
6) Cultivating Compassion for Others
7) Active Compassion Practice
8) Integrated : Practice

Each class includes an opening meditation or intention-setting practice, followed by small group discussion, large group discussion, didactic material, an experiential exercise, and a guided meditation that will be the formal meditation practice for that week. Home practice is strongly encouraged and includes formal sitting meditation and informal “compassion-on-the-go” exercises.

The class is being offered by Amy Anthony, Ph.D., who completed a one-year training and certification program as a CCT teacher in 2013. Amy is a licensed psychologist who has prior experience in teaching mindfulness meditation and has been practicing meditation for over 23 years.
