Sunday Morning Service with Dawn Downey

"What Gandhi Said"

The instant that bumper sticker came into view, I was ready for a fight. Nobody was going to tell me who should be president. My feet were planted, my chest puffed, and my spine drawn up to its full five-foot-three. But then I remembered what Gandhi said. "I vow to help my adversary avoid all suffering."

Author Dawn Downey writes to spread kindness. By writing about her daily challenges, she sees the workings of her mind. In conversations with her fans, she learns that most minds work the same way. She shares her personal stories in the hope that readers will lovingly accept the similarities—in themselves, their loved ones, and the people who drive them crazy. Spreading kindness to the people who drive her crazy is her goal for this Season for Nonviolence. (God willin' and the creek don't rise.) She’s the author of three memoirs: Searching for My Heart, From Dawn to Daylight, and Stumbling Toward the Buddha. She lives in Kansas City with her husband, Ben Worth.
